01

So much for writing my Plato essay in 1 day..

At this time I can still read and understand okay if I were just reading notes but all my sentences are coming out as elongated weirdly phrased messes of words that are grammatically confusing and potentially misleading due to the lack of punctuation and excessive and inappropriate use of "and"

This is a skype snapshot of my older sister who has great taste and skinny shoulders. She has a blog at http://matchstiks.tumblr.com and writes for Catalog Magazine in Singapore.

UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS

The Strokes has a new single and listening to it makes me feel like crying. I've listened to their music pretty consistently for the last 6 or something years of my life and there's so many feelings and experiences I associate with their songs it's just INSANE... also it makes me even more depressed about not procuring tickets for their secret gig last year(website crashed the minute the "secret" gig's tickets went on sale) and the fact that like the best groupies we went there and were prepared to ninja our way into the club and still had to admit defeat.

Seeing Julian Casablancas's solo show at the HMV Forum was already pretty amazing(JC is one of my gods certainly) but the whole time I just wish he was singing for The Strokes instead.

Memento Mori

Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.
Tonight we watched Memento projected on the wall of the living room. Everybody keeps telling me to watch it and I can totally see why now. Memento is really tight and well done as a movie, and also as a study of the philosophy of memory. Not to give the film too much credit but it's an interesting perspective that puts focus on memory and our dependency on our ability to remember. Which is something we really take for granted. Most of our knowledge at any moment is made up of memories yet it's so unreliable and easy to manipulate if we try hard enough.

Morality and Literature readings

"With any luck, no human being will be knowable in the way that any literary character worth repeated readings is knowable, even given significant variation in interpretation of a single fictional figure as a distinctive character. Suppsoe that one wanted to understand a human being - "Jane" - in the way that one understands Maggie Verner. The seeker of the best interpretation of Jane will need not only to stalk, eavesdrop upon, and interview Jane repeatedly, not only to study Jane's personal correspondence, wardrobe choices, diaries, and photo albums - all in order to approximate the kind of access to Jane that James gives us to Maggie - but having finally acquired and archived all available evidence on Jane, our man will have to see to it that her life ends in order to endure that the thing he has come to known is finished. Otherwise, he risks the ruin of his Jane-interpretation through Jane's vexing change of heart or mind or disposition in response to new circumstances, new events, new knowledge, new love, new experience, new employment, new society - new anything, really. That is partly why the company of a good novel is so much easier to handle than the company of a human being. It is party why one sometimes rereads novels on airplanes in order to avoid conversation with the occupant of the next seat. Many of us became readers in retreat from family, after all. Such surprises and disappointments as novels offer are few, and can be limited and controlled by readings of the same novel."

HAPPY POST VALENTINE'S DAY

8000 miles is way way way too much distance even with Skype calls

As a substitute I went out for burgers at Byron with friends. After that we played some hilarious/mediocre Guitar hero and headed to Fitzroy Sq for drinking games with Koreans + 1 Russian. Friends and alcohol and game consoles are fun but after a while I just really really really really really can't stand not having you around.

reading webcomics listening to insomniac birds chirping outside

Bong's camera is beautiful but using film is tricky. The first roll was completely messed up so there are no photographs of Amsterdam to keep(not that it was a particularly photogenic experience).

Waking up at 6am to on a Friday to prepare for an interview is the worst thing, I was so sleepy during class and had no energy to finish my cleaning mission at home. At night things are hopeless just talked to my friends all night. Same old no idea what I want to do just wanna lie in bed with you feelings

LATE NIGHTS IN LONDON

"Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
